Extra Information About The 1958 Jaguar XK150 OTS

The Jaguar XK150 was produced by Jaguar between 1957 and 1961 as the successor to the XK140, representing the final evolution of Jaguar’s original XK sports car line that began with the XK120 in 1948. The XK150 bore a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140 but was radically revised, with most visibly a one-piece windscreen replacing the split screen and a widened bonnet that opened down to the wings. Initially available only in fixed head coupé and drophead coupé versions, the roadster was launched as the XK150 OTS (open two-seater) in 1958. Production ended in October 1960 with 9,382 vehicles total, including 2,265 roadsters, 4,445 fixed head coupés, and 2,672 drophead coupés, before being replaced by the legendary E-Type in 1961.

The XK150 represents the pinnacle of Jaguar’s XK development, benefiting from over a decade of refinement since the original XK120. The 3.4 litre DOHC straight-6 XK engine featured a new “B” type cylinder head that raised power to 180 SAE bhp, with special equipment SE models producing 210 bhp and the top S models achieving 250 bhp. For the first time in the XK line, four-wheel Dunlop 12-inch disc brakes appeared as an option, providing superior stopping power that matched the car’s performance capabilities. The XK150 combined refined styling with genuine sports car performance – a 250 bhp XK150S could achieve 132 mph and accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds, making it competitive with contemporary European sports cars while offering superior reliability and comfort.

Owning an XK150 means possessing one of the most refined British sports cars of the 1950s, representing the culmination of Jaguar’s XK development before the revolutionary E-Type changed everything. The XK150 offers a more comfortable and civilized driving experience than earlier XK models, with improved interior space, better weather protection, and more modern amenities, while still maintaining the classic XK’s performance character and distinctive exhaust note. As the final expression of the original XK theme, well-maintained examples like concours-quality restorations are increasingly recognized as significant automotive artifacts that bridge the gap between post-war British sports cars and the modern era, making ownership both a driving pleasure and a connection to automotive history.
